Rhode Island’s First Battery Storage Facility
PartnerPascoag Utility District

Challenge
Pascoag Utility District supplies power to approximately 5,000 customers in Northern Rhode Island. During peak summer months, high electricity demand was putting the facility at maximum capacity. The existing energy infrastructure was insufficient to meet customer needs during peak demand periods and customers would potentially be cut off from power when it was needed most.
Solution
A $1.4 million loan through the Efficient Buildings Fund for an electric substation expansion and a battery storage facility.
Results
$3.5 million
Financing
The facility is estimated to save $3.5 million over the life of the project. The upgraded infrastructure and battery storage facility will allow Pascoag Utility District to save money and increase reliability for its customers.
